Dot Clingman

Accomplishments Even though I’ve always been “fit” – a few years ago, I had to admit that I’d also gotten “fat.” I started to keep a journal of everything I consumed and educated myself on calorie counts and nutrition. I lost about 35 pounds and have kept it off for going on four years. I credit PTF (especially Alayne) for the ongoing encouragement and inspiration.
Inspiration from Dot Consistency, fun, camaraderie… Also, I work harder in group fitness than I do on my own.

How long have you been exercising at Portland Team Fitness?
Since you opened!

What made you get started? I had trained with Alayne at “another gym” and she made it really easy to follow her to PTF.

Do you remember your first class? Can you share that story and what it was like?
I remember the first time I trained with Alayne (“Wonder Women”) – I was afraid I wouldn’t make it through the class. I thought I was in good shape, but the work-out was actually fun and so challenging!

Why did you come back?
See previous answer (“fun and so challenging”)

Why do you keep coming back to PTF?
Love the trainers, the other “fitness friends”, the variety of the equipment and work-outs, and the convenience.

When did it “click” for you?
When did fitness become habit you couldn’t live without? I’ve been a fairly regular exerciser for over 30 years, but in the past three years, it’s been a daily part of my life.

What are your biggest achievements? Weight Loss? Inches lost? Races completed? Big competitions? Increase in speed, agility or athletic performance? Personal best achievements? Please be as specific as possible.

How do you feel different since you have been working out at Portland Team Fitness?
I honestly feel good about my body – for the first time in my life. (Now if you could only stop the aging process! Ah…wrinkles!)

What are the positive benefits of coming to Portland Team Fitness?
Consistency, fun, camaraderie… Also, I work harder in group fitness than I do on my own.

What is your favorite exercise?
I like deep stretching, almost any ab work.

Which is your favorite exercise that you actually don’t like?
Anything with heavy balls and kettle balls (but I do them)

What would you tell someone that is just beginning on their fitness journey? WHY should they chose PTF?
You’ll get personalized encouragement and support. Alayne employs a team of trainers who are inspiring, upbeat, and organized. I love that. Classes start and end on time and different each time.

What has been one of the most influential steps or changes you have made in your overall lifestyle that has helped you meet your goals?
Keeping a daily journal of exercise and food intake.

What is something that you have done recently that you NEVER thought you could have done?
4 minute plank.

What is something you are training for or looking forward to in the near future?
I just want to stay healthy and in shape so I can enjoy the “evening” years.

THANK YOU! Any last words? If you could pick one piece of exercise equipment AND only one song to sweat to on a deserted island, what would they be and WHY?
One song? Are you kidding? Hmmmm Eminem’s 8 Mile theme is always inspiring. And, I guess I’d bring a yoga mat and focus on body weight training and stretching. That way the rescuers would have less to haul when they found me.
