How long have you been exercising at Portland Team Fitness?
I was a regular in Miss Triche’s classes back in 2011-12. I got distracted by bike racing for a few years, and have been back in the gym on a regular basis for about 4 months.
What made you get started?
Back in 2011 I needed full body strength training to complement my cycling and to prevent injury. This year, I’m trying to get in optimal physical shape before ankle surgery.
Do you remember your first class?
Can you share that story and what it was like? My first class was with Triche. We did at least 100 burpees. I am a bike commuter but had to take the bus to work the next day.
Why did you come back?
I come back because I always feel like I’ve gotten a fantastic full body workout and each workout is different.
Why do you keep coming back to PTF?
The camaraderie of crazy people sweating at 6am.
When did it “click” for you? When did fitness become habit you couldn’t live without?
I can’t remember ever not being active. However, group fitness clicked for me when I started doing kickboxing M/W/F afternoons at the YMCA while I was in law school. That group got me through three years of law school, a divorce and the bar exam.
What are your biggest achievements? Weight Loss? Inches lost? Races completed? Big competitions? Increase in speed, agility or athletic performance? Personal best achievements? Please be as specific as possible.
I’ve got a few big achievements, each is special in its own way I’ve been a OBRA (Oregon Bicycle Racing Association) state champion both in road racing and in cyclocross and a series winner in Portland’s Short Track Mountain Bike Series. My biggest achievement, however, was climbing South Sister the day after I completed six months of treatment for breast cancer.
How do you feel different since you have been working out at Portland Team Fitness?
I feel stronger and less stressed…I just started my own business and being done with my daily workout at 7am has done wonders for my ability to get things done during rest of the day!
What is your favorite exercise?
Squats on the bosu.
Which is your favorite exercise that you actually don’t like?
Pistol squats. For a cyclist, I sure do have lazy glutes. And pushups.
