How long have you been exercising at Portland Team Fitness?
About a year.
What made you get started?
My daughter was having such a great time, and I wanted to find out what it was all about. I was also looking for a way to increase my physical activity.
Do you remember your training session? Can you share that story and what it was like? Why did you come back?
Something about working out with Shannon makes you want to find out what she is going to do to you the next session.
Why do you keep coming back to PTF?
I like the challenge that working with a trainer offers, and I have enjoyed my increased strength and energy.
When did it “click” for you? When did fitness become habit you couldn’t live without?
I have been an avid walker for many years, but haven’t thought about doing any training. I started to take some yoga classes, and they were fun, but I was ready for something more challenging, and have enjoyed the health benefits of the personal training.
What are your biggest achievements? Weight Loss? Inches lost? Races completed? Big competitions? Increase in speed, agility or athletic performance? Personal best achievements? Please be as specific as possible.
My biggest achievements are an increase in my walking pace, and continued endurance. My husband and I are frequent travelers and like adventure travel…so my training has also enabled me to keep up with snorkeling and hiking in far off places. As well, I have found that I can keep up with my grandkids better. I have even tried rock climbing!
How do you feel different since you have been working out at Portland Team Fitness?
I feel sore. A lot.
What are the positive benefits of coming to Portland Team Fitness?
It feeds a competitive side of me that a retired person doesn’t get to experience normally. And I am much stronger than I was before.
What is your favorite exercise?
Which is your favorite exercise that you actually don’t like?
Stability ball ham string curl
What would you tell someone that is just beginning on their fitness journey? WHY should they chose PTF?
I would tell them that there are a number of ways to get your journey started…walking, running, and training are only parts of the journey. But that by combining them together, they can be more powerful. Kind of like compound interest…my training and walking together have led to benefits that neither could accomplish on their own. They should choose PTF because the staff are fantastic, and treat each client like they are a part of the family.
What has been one of the most influential steps or changes you have made in your overall lifestyle that has helped you meet your goals?
Sticking with it. And not letting a difficult workout get me down.
What is something that you have done recently that you NEVER thought you could have done?
I went rock climbing for the first time. I also choose to walk instead of drive every chance I get!
What is something you are training for or looking forward to in the near future?
I am training to improve flexibility, stamina and balance. All needed for our adventures.

I would take my resistance bands and play Katy Perry’s Roar.
